August von Pelzeln

August von Pelzeln (1825 - September 2, 1891) was an Austrian ornithologist.

August Edler Pelzeln was in charge of the mammal and bird collections at the Imperial Natural History Museum (Imperial Cabinet)in Vienna. He worked on the birds collected by Johann Natterer in Brazil in 1822.

He was forced to retire from the museum due to ill health, and died at Oberdöbling near Vienna.

Some birds described by Pelzeln are Red-eyed Thornbird, Spot-winged Antbird, Red-legged Tinamou, Short-billed Leaftosser, Yellow-margined Flatbill and the New Zealand Rockwren.
